NewTree Chocolates

Review of: Dark Chocolate Bar (Pleasure) - 73% Cocoa

Read review on Judy's Book.

I first discovered these at Larry's Market about a year ago.  This company makes chocolate bars, then markets them with theraputic intent.  Brilliant idea!  They take really really good quality Belgian chocolate, then add herbs and spices to them.

You can try a "Vigor" bar (dark chocolate with coffee and guarana) if you need a lift.  A "Tranquility" bar (milk chocolate with lavender and lime) if you need to relax.  Wanna spice things up?  Try a "Sexy" bar with dark chocolate and ginger!  My absolute favorite is "Pleasure".  It's strictly dark chocolate.  I buy a regular size bar and break off a few squares a day.  Lasts me all week.

The bars come in "regular" size (2.82 oz...about twice the size of a Hershey bar) and 0.32 oz "mini-bars".

I've bought them at Larry's Market and they recently started carrying them at The Spa at Pro Sports Club.

Gladiator for Girls

There's a pasttime that I enjoy which I've always been a bit ashamed about, but I've had a breakthrough today and I'm ready to share:  I have the dvd to VH-1 Divas Live, the first one, and I really really enjoy watching it.  It makes me happy.  I don't watch the whole thing.  I just fast forward tDivasliveo the end where Celine, Maria, Shania and Gloria all sing with Carole King.  I watch it through to the grand finale with Aretha Franklin.  Here's what I've realized:

This isn't a concert film.  It's a  Gladiator/Godzilla film.

It's like this:  Celine, Maria, Shania and Gloria are all the little townspeople.  And they're good and pure and sweet and nice and they just want to be happy little divas who look so pretty and sing their songs.  La-la-la...don't we love them?  Aren't they sweet?  BUT WAIT!  Lurking in the wings is the most fierce and fabulous diva of them all.  And here she comes:  ARETHA!  The little divas scurry and try to appease  the  monster, but it's no use.  She mops the floor with their scrawny little asses.  Gladiator/diva (Gladiviator?) Celine and Gladiviator Mariah make valiant efforts:  They step over the bloodied corpses of Shania and Gloria (and Carole King, who's mike was turned off...oh, SNAP!) and  attack Godivazilla with their  mellifluous runs  and  scales.  But everytime they think they've  bested the beast, she  jumps it up an octave higher or drops a note down into the basement.  RAHR!  HOWL!  STOMP!  CRASH!  HALLELUJIAH!  Godivazilla has left another city in smoldering ruins.

Look at that turtle go, bro!

GalapagostortoiseWorld's Oldest Tortoise Dies after 250 years.

I had no idea there were animals that old on this planet.  Very cool.  Gotta love the picture in the msnbc article.  That tortoise is like "Oy!  I'm so tired my tired is tired."

Insult to injury

To the weasel (be you person or bot) who put the "free video interacial pantyhose girls pee standing up" trackback link here last night:

Interracial is spelled with two r's.   If you're going to spam my site with porn, you'd better get the grammar right.

Real-life Simpsons

Have you seen this?  It's the Simpsons intro done with live actors.  It's great!

You Know What I'm Sayin', Campbell?

President Bush's punkass nephew on the Today show.

It's downright eerie.

Mora Ice Cream

Mora Ice Cream

Read review on Judy's Book.

Mmmm!  Best ice cream I've had in the greater Seattle area.  This ice cream is made on Bainbridge Island, and served in their great ice cream cafĂ© at Bellevue Square.  There are 48 flavors, they use all natural ingredients, and it's half the butterfat of most premium ice cream.  BUT YOU'D NEVER KNOW IT!  I like to go get a small cake cone with a scoop of their maraschino cherry and a scoop of vanilla with chocolate shavings.  Yummy for your tummy.

Starspotting

No, not stars potting.  I'm talking about spotting celebrities out in the everyday world.  I've thought about putting a list like this together before, but was embarrassed at my own shallow and vapid nature.  Then I saw Tom Skerritt tonight, again, at Nishino, and I decided that God wants me to be shallow and vapid.  So, with the good Lord's blessing, here is a list of celebrities I have seen in real life and where I saw them.

  • Tom Skerritt - movie actor - restaurant in Seattle
  • Nick and Nina Clooney - TV host, anchorman, and George's parents - theatre in NYC
  • Victor Garber -stage, film, and tv actor - in line at a theatre in NYC
  • Mike Wallace - television news reporter - restaurant in NYC
  • Neil Young - rock star - Getting into a taxi in NYC
  • Scott Hamilton and Kristi Yamaguchi - figure skating stars - Boston's Logan Airport
  • Mickey Hart - drummer for Grateful Dead - restaurant in Syracuse, NY
  • Chad Smith - drummer for The Red Hot Chili Peppers - airport in Syracuse, NY
  • Bill and Melinda Gates - founder of Microsoft Corp., philanthropy beacons - restaurant in Bellevue, WA
  • R. Buckminster Fuller - American visionary, designer, architect, inventor - school in Oxford, MI
  • Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden - movie star, political activist - school in Detroit, MI
  • Betty Friedan - author and feminist movement pioneer - political march in Washington, D.C.
  • Ricki Lake - actress and television host - hotel in Hawaii
  • Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewick - actors- hotel elevator in Hawaii

That's all I can think of for now.  I reserve the right to come back here and add to this list if I remember more.  So, what's your list?  Concerts don't count.  This has to have been a more real-life scenario.

The Queen of Meme

That rascal, Duffergeek, tagged me with the latest meme.  This one's called "4x8" or something:

FOUR JOBS I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE:
1) Handwriting analyst - actually, it was a sideshow huckster deal where I had a "computer" that would analyze your signature.  It was a load of crap, $1 a pop, and the guy made money hand over fist.  Paid me and my sister $10/hour.
2) Radio producer/weather reporter - for the "Fat Bob Taylor" show on WAAM .  1600 on your AM dial.
3) Actress/playwright - $100 a weekend to provide the entertainment at the Upland Hills Farm Pumpkin Festival.  I think that's called Off-Off-OFF Broadway.
4) Secretary - By far the worst job I ever had.  Worked for an absolute prick of an accountant at a prestigious firm in Cambridge, MA.

FOUR MOVIES I COULD (AND I DO) WATCH OVER AND OVER:
1) The Philadelphia Story
2) North by Northwest
3) Horsefeathers -
(Actually, any one of the first 5 Marx Bros. movies)
4) Out of Sight -
George Clooney, you will be mine.

FOUR PLACES I HAVE LIVED:
1) Waterford, MI
2) Sarnia, ONT - CANADA
3) Redmond, WA *
4) Sammamish, WA*

(and many, many others)
* These were in the same house without moving.

FOUR TV SHOWS I LOVE TO WATCH:
1) My Name Is Earl
2) The Office
3) The Colbert Report
4) Miami Ink

FOUR PLACES I HAVE BEEN ON VACATION:
1) Niort, France
2) Rome, Italy
3) Rome, New York
4) Laramie, Wyoming *

* I can't recommend Laramie

FOUR WEBSITES I VISIT DAILY:
1) MyFamily.com -
I keep in touch with my far-flung family members this way.  It's a great site, but only if you have people actively participating (hint, hint, Evans family!)
2) CNN.com - It's a quick way to get my news, though an awful lot of it is crap.  I try to read the International Edition, too, so I can have a tiny clue about the rest of the world.
3) Salon.com - Pretty darn biased, politically, but I love them, nonetheless.  I subscribe, above all else, for The K Chronicles.
4) Gmail.com -
So's I can chat with ma peeps.

FOUR OF MY FAVORITE FOODS:
1) Sushi -
This is the food I would choose if it was all I could eat forever.  Especially if it's from Nishino.
2) Ice cream -
Best in Seattle?  Mora  Best in the world?  Graeter's
3) Cookies -
I am a cookie monster.
4) Belvedere Martinis -
Not a food?  OK, add three blue-cheese stuffed olives and we'll call it good.

FOUR PLACES I WOULD RATHER BE RIGHT NOW:
1) Poolside at the Grand Wailea
- With a mai-tai on Maui.
2) Shopping at Bergdorf-Goodman - The real one, not the dot com.
3) Smellling the fresh loaves at Poilane - Oh, Paris.  You will be mine.  Oh yes.
4) In my bed. - I don't spend nearly enough time there.

FOUR TAGS TO CONTINUE THIS MEME:
1) Maggie -
Welcome to the blogosphere!
2) Tony - Let's see if Tony wants to play.
3) Scott - Even though he NEVER does these things.
4) Kevin - Aim high, I say.

The Big Move

Boxeslarge_1 So, I'm in the process of moving here at The Leslie Show:  moving from Blogger to TypePad.  I'm expecting a few possible glitches, mainly as I attempt to transport 3 years worth of blog to a new site.  Bear with me, I think the ultimate result will be quite satisfying.
