Fried Pickles!

These fried pickles were served as an appetizer at The Garden restaurant in Salt Lake City. They were crisp and not heavy or greasy at all. They were DILL-licious!

The opening artistic part was good. It was VERY reminiscent of Cirque du Soleil's "O".
Afghanistan is back, and sending women. Too cool.
I love how they always do French, English, and the host country's language. Zach is cracking up at the different pronunciations. Sometimes the Greek sounds VERY different and sometimes the pronunciation is exactly the same in all three languages! Heh, El Salvador was the same in all three languages except in English the second syllable is emphasized instead of the last.
Oooh, so far the Brazilians win for best uniform. Lime green jackets with white ties with bright colored squiggly lines on 'em and white pants. The women have the pattern on their skirts. LOOKIN' GOOD, BRAZIL!
OK, here come the Americans. What? What the heck kind of Pimptown, USA getup is that? No, no, no. Not good. The Brazilians kicked our butt in the clothes dept.
I want to see the Tae Kwon Do events. Since I participate in that sport, it will be fun to watch. I'm going to be in Salt Lake City when they air, though, so I'll probably have to have them tape it at home.
Iraq got a big reception. Good for them. They look handsome and happy. Gotta be nice to go to the Olympics without Uday Hussein torturing you and your family if you come home empty-handed.
What? Some dude from Iran will withdraw rather than compete against an Israeli? Screw him. They should kick him out before he has a chance to withdraw. I mean literally. Stick a boot in his ass and launch him, just like in a cartoon. What a dick.
Wow, North and South Korea entered together holding hands. That's nice!
Can't we all just get along?
Cook Islands, look at you! All decked out in flowers. Don't you look nice? Now, where the heck do you live?
I like the Dutch's choice of uniform...white suits with orange ties. Good stuff.
Germany had really ugly uniforms. All very dull beige with Tyrolean hats. C'mon, people, you're on a Meditarannean Island. Some color, please.
Palestine? How does that work? Do they have a country? I'm missing something here.
Oh, man, this is taking a long time. There are a lot of countries here. I'm falling asleep. We're in the "P's" (Peru, Poland, Portugal) but I have no idea where that is in the Greek Alphabet. Oh, Lord, it's Puerto Rico, Macedonia then Rwanda. What kind of order is that? It's all Greek to me! (Sorry, it had to be said at SOME point.)
Romania has some sort of rainbows on its jackets. While I am not averse to this concept, I don't think they pulled it off.
Ooh, Russia has gone the elegant route! They look like cream colored 1920s traveling suits. Very classy!
Sao Tome and Principe??? Have YOU ever heard of that country?
Whoa, Tajikstan, quite the ornate outfits.
Oh my god, I'm so sleepy. Can't the rest of you all run in together?
Oh my god. Bob Costas just made a joke about "Djibouti". He said "You bet Djibouti". Look, Costas, I can make jokes like that, but you're representing the country here, man. I love ya, Lil' Bob, but you're no Jim McKay.
Hey, the Greeks are next. C'mon, Greeks. Get your butts in this stadium! I gotta go to bed!
Whoa, there are a LOT of Greek athletes! They don't usually send this many, do they? This is because it's right in their own yard, right? The place is going nuts. Oooh, they're explaining that the host nation automatically qualifies for a lot of the events. And they also said a lot of the athletes in the delegation have been imported from other countries, with some sort of Greek ancestry.
OK, who's gonna light the torch? Ugh, still nothing. I bet this didn't take so long in real life, it's just that this all happened hours and hours ago, so NBC has plenty of time to pause the action and insert a gazillion commercials.
About to lose power. Ugh.
Okay, I'm back. So, of course, it was a Greek guy who lit the torch. Some guy I'd never heard of. But it was still very cool. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
I loved her sense of humor and her eccentricity. Amazing that she was born in California as she strikes me as so very New England. I have several of her books and I love her down-to-earth approach. She was the Queen.
This, and Snopes seem to be the place to go when you want to know "is that really true?".
